Introduction
Karen Tennock is a senior associate who has worked in the helping profession for 25+ years. Trained as a social worker and a counsellor, Karen has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to creating safe and caring spaces for people to heal and grow no matter their personal or relational issue. She brings a deep sense of compassion, empathy, and respect to her work.
Karen is also a contracted service provider with Nisga’a Valley Health. Her services are also covered by most extended health benefits plans. Please contact your plan provider to determine if you have coverage for a Registered Social Worker.
Fees:
Karen is currently accepting new clients
$160 per session (50 min) for Individual Counselling
$180 per session (50 min) for Couples or Family Counselling
Karen is offering sessions in person, by telephone or video conference.
Tuesdays: 11:30 am, 1:00 pm, 2:05 pm, 3:10 pm, 4:15 pm, 5:15 pm
(Karen has some flexibility to accommodate video conference sessions on different days).

Education & Experience
Karen has a BSW from the University of Victoria and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) from Yorkville University. She is a registered social worker through the BC College of Social Workers (#10717). She is also a member of the BC Association of Social Workers.
Karen has years of experience working with diverse groups to support mental health and well-being through her work as a social worker at a community health centre and multicultural family centre, as a parent educator supporting parents/families, as a community service worker supporting adults with developmental disabilities, and currently as a counsellor for Inuit.
She has supported people with a range of concerns such as depression, anxiety, life transitions, trauma, substance misuse, mental illness, grief & loss, and interpersonal issues.
Counselling Approach & Philosophy
Karen practices from a trauma-informed, social justice and humanistic perspective with an abiding sense of respect for peoples’ capacity for resilience and strength. Karen views counselling as a collaborative process to sensitively support each person to discover their inner and outer resources.
Karen takes a multi-model approach to support the unique needs of each person, drawing on Compassion Focused, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Attachment-based, Person-Centered, family systems and Body-Centered approaches. Overall, Karen practices holistically, incorporating the mind, body, spirit, and emotions into the process of healing and personal growth. Karen is also in alignment with decolonization and anti-oppressive practices and deeply supports the revitalization of Indigenous cultures and worldviews.
